How to install tapered roller bearings

Adjusting the axial clearance for the installation of tapered roller bearings can be achieved by adjusting the nuts, washers, and threads in the bearing seat holes on the shaft neck, or by using methods such as pre tensioning springs. The size of axial clearance is related to the arrangement of bearings during installation, the distance between bearings, and the material of the shaft and bearing seat, and can be determined according to working conditions.

For high load and high speed tapered roller bearings, when adjusting the clearance, it is necessary to consider the effect of temperature rise on the axial clearance, and estimate the reduction of clearance caused by temperature rise. In other words, the axial clearance should be adjusted appropriately to be larger.

For bearings with low speed and bearing vibration, clearance free installation or preload installation should be adopted. Its purpose is to create good contact between the rollers and raceways of tapered roller bearings, distribute the load evenly, and prevent damage to the rollers and raceways due to vibration and impact. After adjustment, the size of the axial clearance is checked with a dial gauge.

How to install and adjust the clearance of tapered roller bearings?

Generally, tapered roller bearings are used, both face-to-face and back-to-back, and the clearance size should be determined based on the size of the bearing you choose and the transmission accuracy required by the mechanism! As for the adjustment method, it can be achieved by pressing and loosening!

How are gears and tapered roller bearings assembled?

When designing gears, there should be axial positioning steps to lock the outer ring of the bearing tightly, and the outer side of the inner ring should be locked with a locking nut. The pre tightening force for locking should be set according to the application conditions.
